Can a member of the public buy a .gr here?

Yes, on the evidence of its own storefront: a English interface, .gr among the namespaces offered, and a EUR price printed with its VAT treatment on 2026-10-20.

.gr

What its page printed

"Greek extensions are registered and renewed two years at a time, a registry rule: a .gr costs €18.98 + VAT to register and €28.98 + VAT to renew."; ".gr · min 2 yrs €9.49 €14.49" (register / renew per year).

Read from https://grandhosting.gr/domains on 2026-10-20. A storefront read establishes the language, the currency and the figure the page printed that day. It does not establish support quality, uptime or what a renewal will cost next year.

How the Greece storefronts were read

Nine .gr registrars from the 326 on EETT's register of .gr registrars were opened on 2026-09-29, plus Hostinger's Greek page. Greek price lists sell .gr per 2-year term; two print that 2-year price with its tax treatment and are ranked by the computed yearly equivalent: Papaki ("€7.5/2 έτη", renewal "€29.9/2 έτη", without ΦΠΑ 24%) and 1HOST (18.15 € per 2 years, VAT excluded). DNHOST and HostPlus print 2-year .gr prices without ΦΠΑ wording, and DomainMarket, Novahost and dnames.gr printed no .gr figure on the pages read. On 2026-10-15 the remaining 316 registrars on FORTH-ICS's list that publish a website were opened, so every registrar on the list with a published website has now been tried: 251 were read, 65 could not be, and 39 more print a comparable .gr price. On 2026-10-20 the 66 storefronts that could not be read were opened again in a browser that waits longer for pages built by script, reads framed pages and follows a redirect from plain http to https: 32 were read this time, 34 still could not be, and 2 of those read print a comparable .gr price.
