Top-level domains (TLDs)
A top-level domain is the last label in a domain name, the part after the final dot. The IANA root zone holds 1,595 of them, read from the IANA root database on 2026-08-25. Of those, 316 are country-code TLDs, listed in full on the ccTLD reference.
This page covers the 289 TLDs we publish a page for, of which 287 carry registry facts read from the root database: who operates each one, what it is for, what its registration rules actually constrain, and where a verified price exists. For price comparison across every extension and registrar, use the full price list.
Choosing by what you are building
A written read of each category: which extension is the safe default, what the registry rules actually constrain, and the expensive mistake buyers make. Prices in each are the cheapest verified renewal, not the promotional first year.
Hand-reviewed TLDs
All tracked TLDs with verified pricing
Every extension below has at least one price verified from a registrar's own published pricing and an IANA-sourced registry operator. Registration rules and DNSSEC/IDN detail appear on a page once hand-verified.
