How we verified this pricing
Namecheap's pricing page returns HTTP 403 to a plain fetch and renders prices client-side, so figures are read by scripts/fetch-pricing-headless.mjs, which renders namecheap.com/domains/ in a real Chromium browser and extracts the per-TLD Register/Renew/Transfer table. first_year is the current (sale) first-year price; renewal and transfer are the published recurring rates. Prices exclude the $0.20 ICANN fee Namecheap adds at checkout on affected TLDs. Re-fetched 2026-08-19 against the full tracked catalog: coverage widened from the original core set to every tracked TLD this registrar publishes.

Renewal pricing explained
First-year prices often look low because of promotional pricing. The renewal price is what you pay every year after that. For long-term value, weigh the renewal price and three-year cost over the first-year promo.

Who owns Namecheap
Namecheap is part of CVC Capital Partners. Namecheap was founded in 2000 by Richard Kirkendall and independent for its whole history until September 2025, when private equity firm CVC Capital Partners agreed to take majority control in a deal valuing it at $1.5 billion including debt; the founder retained a large stake. Namecheap also operates Spaceship, marketed as a separate registrar aimed at domain investors — so two brands that appear side by side on comparison sites belong to one company.
That means Spaceship shares an owner with Namecheap — shortlisting both is not the hedge it looks like.
Logged incidents
Cooling at the Phoenix data centre housing core infrastructure failed after repeated utility power events during overnight storms, leaving several chillers unavailable as internal temperatures rose. Because the identity and control-plane systems that authenticate users, serve the API and route DNS were concentrated in that one facility, the impact was not limited to servers physically in Phoenix.
Affected: Hosting, DNS, Email, Control panel, API · full entry and sources
Our incident log begins in August 2026 and is not a complete history — it records what we could source.
